Teen Poetry - Counting Your Moments

Counting Your Moments
By: Maria Dimarzo, Senior, Lynbrook High School, Lynbrook, NY

When the last whistle blew.
The last ball was caught.
That’s when everything came to thought.

When the bleachers were empty.
And the cool wind turned to the last snow
It was that moment where there was nothing much left to know.

When the acceptance letters came.
And when the friendship circles realized they were going different ways.
That’s when I wondered how I would spend the rest of my days.

When the tickets were being sold.
When the gowns were being handed out.
That’s when my face seemed to pout.

As I stood up in my seat.
As I looked back at those years.
At that moment I tasted the saltiness of my tears
