Teen Poetry - Adore

Adore
By Edward Pinkney, Senior, James Adams H.S, Bronx NY

I snuck in through your bedroom window just to see you.

Just to listen to you breathe.

Just to watch you dream and I prey that you’re dreaming of me.

So angelic the way you seem to the naked eye but your image is false it’s a lie only I can detect.

They drool over you but you’ve chosen to be with me and if you ask me

It’s just a bit unsettling how everything you are is just so utterly beautiful.

The way we switch roles like sharing and changing clothes.

I let you think your in charge and then I take control.

You throw a fuss threaten to leave but you and I both know there’s nowhere you want to go.

No place you would rather be but right here under me.

I so adore you.

So where did you go love when the Earth rose up and leveled with the sun.

Tore off the faces of all the beautiful ones.

Yet you stand before me shimmering in the moonlight.

I praise Apollo for although he destroyed my flesh he left me my sight.

For he knew that your image would forbid me from taking my life.

So where did you go love when the Earth rose up and leveled with the sun

Tell me anything promise me, lie if you have to

Just tell me that you weren’t with him because it just might kill me.

Yes it might kill me to know that at sometime you shared your body, your love with another.

Someone other than me in my head it’s blasphemy.

Obliviously more than a possibility but accepting reality was never a hobby of mine.

And though every moment scorches me.

I still love you and the way everything you are is just so utterly beautiful.

From your doll like brown eyes to your everlasting thighs

To keep you as mine, I’m going to eat you up and swallow you whole

So selfish we are using each other to fill the void in our hearts knowing that one day our love will tear the world

apart.
