Teen Violence Killing each other. Taking lives from another.
TeenNewsNet features the poetry of Ashley White, Senior, Jane Addams H.S., Bronx, NY. Her work below is titled Teen Violence:
Shot in the head over a $100 chain.
Slicing someone's face to belong in a gang.
Mothers burying their kids while you walk the streets.
You live that life, that kid is under 6 feet.
Does it make you a man when you pull a trigger?
Yet you get mad everytime the white man kills a nigger.
Yeah we all say "the white man" this "the white man" that.
I got news for you, "the white man" ain't gotta do shit but sit back and relax.
Blacks and hispanics, the minority, yet the majority of those losing their life.
Danger never sleeps, it attacks silent like a hungry bear.
But hey, it ain't my my family, why should I care?
What if it was your brother or sister dragged out in a body bag?
Every teen that's ever taken a life needs to reflect, regret, learn and respect.
Pick up a paper, turn on the news, this shit makes me sick.
I don't know what to do.
It's not smart being dumb.
It's not hot acting cool.
It's not fun to pull a gun.
Everyday a family is dressed in all black, but if we don't pick up the slack
you'll be the next teen arms crossed laying on your back.
Music and movies be our violence muse,
brings another muder on the 6 o'clock news.
12 and 13 year olds that don't have a clue saying I just shot someone "yeah yeah I'm Cool."
No! You don't want to be that teen that wears a certain color to rep your set.
No! You don't want to be that teen that loses your life for dressing fresh.
I wanna be that teen that makes it to eighteen.
