If you’re in the mood to smile and laugh so hard that your stomach hurts, you definitely should go see Young Frankenstein at Broadway's Hilton Theater!
Opening last November, Young Frankenstein was brought to life on the Broadway stage from its original Movie form by Mel Brooks. It is the story of a brilliant Dean of Anatomy, Frederick Frankenstein (that’s Frankensteen to you!) who dismisses his late grandfather’s work.
However, he makes a trip to Transylvania just to settle matters of estate. He soon finds himself wrapped up in his grandfather’s work aided by the Inga, his assistant, Igor (that’s Eye-gor to you!) and Frau Blucher (*horses whine*).
I was captivated by the show from start to finish! It started with a bang, literally, and throughout was filled with (both obvious and subtler) raunchy humor, making it unsuitable for young children. By the final curtain call, my stomach ached and my eyes were tearing from all of the laughter!
Also, the effects were realistic and extraordinary! The area cooled when the setting was outside; there was smoke, fog, and sparks when necessary.
The performances were phenomenal as well. Some performers that would be familiar to you include Megan Mullally (Karen Walker from the hit TV series Will and Grace) and Andrea Martin (Aunt Voula in My Big Fat Greek Wedding) Each role cast fit perfectly due to their ability to make their characters believable, especially to those of us who love the 1974 film Young Frankenstein.
